Current Outdoor League Regulations

These rules are unique to the current league, and are subject to change at the start of each league. Please ensure you also know the 2009 WFDF Rules

General

  1. Learn the rules. It's your responsibility to learn them and ensure your team has done so too. We expect players to know the rules. Captains should educate their team on the rules where needed so that disputes can be resolved quickly and fairly
  2. Games must start on time. So please show up before your game is scheduled to start.
  3. If your opposition team is late, you will be awarded a point for every minute until they are on the line. At 15 minutes your opposition will default if they are not ready to play. Defaulted games are recorded as 15:0 wins for the team defaulted to. This team is also awarded full spirit.
  4. Time-outs, time caps and half-times:
    • 5 a-side: Each team has 2 time-outs of two minutes per game and may not use them within the final five minutes. Time cap at 60 minutes. At time cap finish the point in progress. There is no half-time in 5 a-side
    • 7 a-side: Each team has 2 time-outs of two minutes per half and may use these at any time within that half. Game to 17. Time cap at 90 minutes. At time cap, finish the point, then add 2 to the highest score and play to that (but not more than 17). 7 a-side games have a half-time. This should be called when the first team reaches 9 points.
  5. In development grades experienced players may stop play to explain rules to newer players.
  6. Every team is responsible for recording their own game scores, spirit scores and MVPs. If there are any disputes please settle them in an appropriate manner. You must return scoresheets to the league managers at the end of each game. If you fail to fill in the spirit score for your opposition then you will not be awarded spirit for that week and the other team will get full spirit.
  7. It is at the discretion of the teams involved, however as a general rule, MVP should literally be awarded to the most valuable player. i.e, the player on the opposition that played the best. This is not a most improved award or a 'who tried the hardest award'. However, in development grades you should refrain from awarding this to restricted (A-list) player.
  8. Players marked with an "A" on the restricted list are limited in non-A grade level leagues. This limitation differs as follows:
    • B grade - 3 A listed players per team are allowed on the field at a time;
    • Div 1 (5 a-side) - 2 A listed players per team are allowed on the field at a time; and
    • Div 2 (5 a-side) - 1 A listed player per team is allowed on the field at a time;
    If you are a skilled player new to Wellington Ultimate and/or have started playing after a long hiatus (or the captain of such a player), please contact the List Registrar to determine your status.
  9. Gender requirements are currently as follows:
    • A grade - a 4:3 male/female split;
    • B grade - a 5:2 or 4:3 male/female split - offence choice; and
    • 5 aside - a 3:2 male/female split
  10. Please stick to your usual roster where possible. You may pick-up one player, and one player only. Please note that in A grade any pick-ups will need the explicit consent of the opposition's captain (who has the right to say no). No pick-ups will be allowed during finals weeks.
  11. It is considered good spirit to enforce these rules, as it allows for a fairer league. However captains' discretion applies to all league regulations, and captains agreement is considered final. It is up to the captains to enforce the above rules and resolve any issues on the night. Remember the spirit!

Rosters

It is the captain's responsibility to keep team rosters up to date. To do this, please notify the Leagues Co-ordinator of any roster changes. You will not be allowed to make any changes to your roster after week 8, and will only be allowed to play with your rostered teams come finals. Players may only be on one roster per grade.
