Matters arising from last meeting
- Minutes from last meeting
Confirmed.
- Outdoor leagues
A grade will be mixed draft. B/C grade will be mixed 5-aside teams (as before).
Restriction on "A graders"? John suggests sending an email emphasising the point that B/C grade is for B/C graders, and suggesting people avoid stacking teams. "A graders" are self-defined. Recommend max 2 A graders on the field/court at a time.
Entries due by next Friday. Beth to send out emails. John to update website. Tanya to document draft process.
Social fees: Last year was, $150? $200? per league. But last year fields got more expensive (they started charging us for paint) and we have been spending money on things (schools, etc), so maybe we need to charge more. Tanya moves $250 per team per league for B/C grade. 6 in favour, 2 abstain: motion passes.
A grade fees: $30 per person — this is roughly comparable to 8 people on a $250 social team.
Social gender split: 4M:1F, 3M:2F — offence chooses.
Point cap: A grade 15, social no point cap; games end at 7.30.
- Marketing to beginners
-
Currently most people find out about ultimate by word-of-mouth. Juho remembers about how the sport was marketed in Finland — they would run a course which people would pay to join, which would teach them the basic skills of ultimate, and give them a disc. They advertised this in newspapers and on posters in various locations. Juho to come up with a plan.
- Coaching / training manual
Liz mentions that coaching materials exist already in other parts of the country. Tanya to look into training manuals on return from Perth.
- Funding for schools programme
Tanya moves that we approve Martin's funding request provided Martin makes the changes Tanya suggested in her email to the Exec. John to locate the email and include its details in the minutes below. Motion passes.
- Report on B/C grade indoor coaching
Attendence was basically three teams, so 15-20 people, primary B/C grade. People who attended gave the coaches positive feedback. We probably couldn't have coped with more players for the space we had, so good use of money. Exec judges the sessions a success. Steve thanks Martin for driving him home.
- Status report on tour event
Kate has booked Rongotai College for 31 March / 1 April.
Financials
- We have an $89 invoice from WCC for Martin-Luckie. Not sure what it's for; it might be for women's training camp, which we are not paying for. John to follow up with Adele.
- John to look for an invoice for Tawa and get it to Steve so we can pay it.
Business / Correspondence
- Food for tonight
Tanya moves that WDS provide $10 per person for food for tonight only. Motion passes.
- MFC PE teachers' conference
We organised a demonstration of ultimate for PE teachers at short notice, at the Renouf foyer in the Michael Fowler Centre. About 10-20 PE teachers showed up. Many were very keen and enjoyed the demo / teaching. Tanya collected email addresses and will follow up later.
Next meeting
Many people leaving early November, so next meeting Monday October 30, venue TBA.
Meeting closed, 20:10.
