Matters arising from last meeting

General business

  • Martin thinks WDS assets (library, discs, etc) should be listed on the website. Also, selling discs — need to tell people how to buy discs, who has discs to sell, etc.
  • Hilary to try to contact Steve, because we are behind on some bills. Need to clarify financial roles (signatories, internet banmking, etc).
  • Hilary & Steve to inventory everything by next meeting.

  • Evans Bay school sessions starting soon, with Martin, Ryan Woodard, Heather Todd.
  • Martin talks about other ways of communicating with B/C grade players. Martin to ask if we can have some noticeboard space at Karori for announcements (league changes, lost property, et cetera), or our own separate noticeboard to be put out when the games are on.
  • Martin wants a set of criteria for how to spend our surplus, so funding requests can be easily tested against the policy to determine yes/no. Dave, Leanne think detailed policy is too hard to formulate; but we have lots of money, so no reason to say No to good development proposals. Martin estimates $5000 per year profit which could be used to establish permanent development programs. Need a budget from Steve, though.
  • Martin suggests shoehorning one/two training session(s) between games in B and/or C grade. Make games 5 minutes shorter → two 15-minute sessions a night. Get A graders to help out. Followup?
  • Ian from New Zealand Ultimate invites WDS to become an organisational member of NZU. Require WDS details (GST reg?, IRD number, etc) from Steve. No fee for organisational members. Exec agrees unanimously to join up. Leanne to follow through with this, once Steve returns.
  • For the future: Get information, junk from Steve and put it somewhere more accessible.
  • Exec allocates indoor nationals A grade spot to WUF.
  • Indoorpendence Day loses $94. Oh well.
  • The big leagues debate

    Venue

We consider several options — Rongotai, Onslow, Martin-Luckie.

    Exec votes: Martin-Luckie. Unanimous.

    Paint?
Question: Do we want the council to paint field markings for us? — Martin to get quote for paint vs no-paint.
    Night?
Exec votes: Social on Tuesday (pref), or Wednesday, or Monday (least pref). Unanimous.
    A grade

Do we want to run A grade run as a draft system? Exec is unanimously in favour; Adrian get feedback from captains to make a final decision next meeting.

League coordinator to coordinate; could include delegating the draft organisation to someone else.

    Draft — uniforms

Thought: WDS buys uniforms; give to teams for the league (or permanently?) This could help create a team identity, and also make the sport look more professional. Get funding from pub charity, etc. Exec members to investigate uniforms for later discussion. Number to buy: 20/team * 6 teams. Award uniform points for teams all in uniform. Get coloured bags to hold shirts. If we don't get full sponsorship, could spend WDS funds on shirts (since we have money and it is an investment in looking professional). Leanne to apply for sponsorship, once Steve gets back. Shirts with numbers on sleeves, WDS logo on front, "Wellington Disc Sports" on back. Leanne and Martin to investigate options, get quotes.

    Men's/women's or mixed?

Exec doubts whether we have the numbers for split gender as well as mixed. Suggest making the leagues mixed and running men's/women's monthly, either on Sunday, or on another night (say, Monday).

In light of recent (post-meeting) developments, this may be revisited.

    Next meeting

September 12th, 6.15pm, Beau Monde, Tory St.
